Tanner Collects First CRSA Win at the Can |

Susquehanna, Pa. – Mother Nature had done her best to prevent the winged warriors of the Capital Region Sprint Car Agency from getting in their event at the Penn Can Speedway over the course of the past two weeks.
On Sunday afternoon the show finally got in and one driver was certainly glad it did. Matt Tanner, of Berlin, N.Y., became the second first time winner of the weekend as he took the checkers in the 25-lap affair.
The race got underway with Tim Damiani jumping out to the early advantage. He was able to lead the race until a blown motor curtailed his efforts on lap eight.
As a result of Damiani being forced to the pits, Tanner was the benefactor as it gave him the lead of the race for the first time.
On the restart, Tanner opened up a slight advantage over the field while Brian Davis, a former Penn Can winner, tried tracking him down.
By lap 15, Davis had run down Tanner, but he wasn’t able to get by and was forced to move around looking for a way to get the lead.
Tanner and Davis battled over the course of the final ten laps with Tanner running a flawless race earning him his first career checkered flag.
Davis, of Mt. Cobb, Pa., had to settle for second with Jeff VanSteenburg of West Shokan, N.Y., racing home in third.
Jeremy Quick finished in fourth while Dylan Swiernik rebounded from and earlier race spin to finish in fifth.
Pit Notes: Only 14 cars were in attendance after a tough night the previous night at Accord Speedway. Heat races were won by Davis and Warren Alexson….As a result of the weekend’s events, VanSteenburg holds a nine point lead over Quick….The final event of the season for the CRSA takes place this Saturday at the Rolling Wheels Raceway.
