FULTONVILLE, NY – The Capital Region Sprint Agency and the Champlain Valley Racing Association have reached agreement to host four events during the 2009 racing season. Three of the events are set to be held at Albany-Saratoga Speedway in Malta, N.Y., while Devil’s Bowl Speedway in West Haven, V.T., will host one event.
“This is a great thing for our teams,” commented series director Brian Grisel. “Now we have shows everywhere we have teams. We have guys that race with us from Pennsylvania and the southern part of New York and we have races for them close to home. Now we’ve added shows close to home for eight to ten of our other guys.
“Everyone has the opportunity to have a home track.”
CVRA promoter, Bruce Richards is equally excited about the opportunity to have the winged warriors of the CRSA at his track next season.
“While we were thinking and calculating what our Saturday program needed we knew it had to start it off with a good foundation,” stated Richards. “I didn’t want to start a sprint car program with only nine or ten cars. Brian’s (Grisel) built a good foundation and I think this deal is good for everyone.”
Albany-Saratoga is scheduled to host the CRSA drivers on May 23, June 6 and June 20. The lone event at Devil’s Bowl is going to be held on July 4.
The deal was worked out last week as the pair got together over lunch. They talked briefly at a party hosted by CRSA driver Danny Ody. It was his yearly racing nostalgia party.
“He (Richards) called me last week and we got together for lunch,” stated Grisel. “We were together for about three hours and decided it is better to work together than work against each other so we can try and get 305 sprint car racing rolling.”
Both promoters feel this is a win-win situation for owners, drivers and fans.
“I think this is a great thing and it is really going to turn some heads,” stated Grisel. “I tried to work something out for our teams and I think this was right for them.”
Richards added, “In this day and age the closer you can stay to home the better. This gives guys in the Capital District a chance to race while not having to travel all over to do it.”
The addition of these two facilities and their dates will bring the total tour schedule near the 20 race mark when it is complete. It will be the most ever in the history of the four year old tour.
“We have a lot more dates to add but this is a great addition,” commented Grisel. “It looks like a lot of our dates are going to be on Saturday’s which is good for our teams because it make’s it easier to travel.
“When the schedule is done we should have between 16 and 20 dates overall.”
