FULTONVILLE, N.Y. – As the weather begins to change and racing season draws near, the Capital Region Sprint Agency is ready to announce its 2009 schedule of events.
This year’s schedule includes several dates at tracks previously visited by the series, but it kicks off with a new facility. On Saturday, April 25, the CRSA drivers make their first ever appearance at the ‘Track of Champions’, the Fonda Speedway for a RACESAVER National Qualifier.
“I’m really happy we were able to get an event at Fonda Speedway,” stated club president Brian Grisel. “It’s where I grew up going to the races and it is the reason I started this club.”
The tour moves from there to the Utica-Rome Speedway on May 9 for a Saturday event which is part of the Victoria 200 Weekend. It returns to Gene Cole’s half-mile oval on Wednesday July 22 as part of an event that is being run to honor racing legend Bill Wimble.
The tour returns to Andrew Harpell’s Kirkwood, N.Y. oval. Five Mile Point has two events in 2009 with the first being on May 17 and the second coming on August 22.
Afton Motor Speedway, under the management of the Rocket family this season, makes its return to the schedule for the first time since the clubs inaugural season in 2006. Afton is set to host two events. The first is scheduled for May 29 and the second event is slated to go on July 24.
Bruce Richards’ announcement of Saturday night racing at Albany-Saratoga Speedway meant a logical relationship with the CRSA. This relationship means three events are set for the Malta oval. Race dates include June 6, June 20 and September 5. CRSA drivers will also be making their first trip ever to Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Vermont on July 4.
Accord Speedway has two events as does the Orange County Fair Speedway. These events are part of the D&D Auto Supply Southern New York Tour Championship. Accord Speedway’s dates are June 12 and September 26 while OCFS has events scheduled for June 13 and August 15.
Joining Accord and OCFS with two dates is the Penn Can Speedway in Susquehanna, Pa. The Reed Miller and Al Wilcox facility is set to have the winged warriors on June 26 as well as August 21.
Vern Wasson’s Woodhull Raceway joins Fonda as a track that came on board for the 2009 season. They are scheduled to hold the second RACESAVER National Qualifier on Saturday, August 29.
The 2009 season will come to a close with the annual awards banquet at the Holiday Inn Express in Schoharie, N.Y. on November 14.
In just two weeks the members of the CRSA will be present at the annual Gater Racing News Motorsports Expo in Syracuse, N.Y. For more information regarding the series be sure to visit our booth on March 14 or 15 or check out the series website at www.crsasprintcars.com.
