Matrafailo Outlast Quick to Earn First CRSA Win at Albany-Saratoga |

MALTA, N.Y. – John Matrafailo, of Milford, Pa., has waited a long time for his first ever Capital Region Sprint Car Agency. On Friday night Matrafailo even waited out a nearly two hour rain delay to win the 25-lap A-Main event at the Albany-Saratoga Speedway.
Matrafailo started on the front row alongside defending series champion Jeremy Quick. The green flag came out on the lightening quick surface with Matrafailo taking the lead.
Matrafailo led the race while Quick stayed close behind him. The two were battling for the lead when the caution came out on lap four. John Leombruno hit the inside wall in turn two and came to a stop on the speedway.
On the restart, Matrafailo again held off the challenges of the Quick’s No. 72. The duo swapped lanes numerous times with Matrafailo continuing to lead.
Brent Jaycox brought out the caution on lap nine as he got two high in turn four and got into the outside wall. The hard impact sent his car over onto its side. He was uninjured in the event.
The race got back underway with Matrafailo and Quick picking up right where they left off prior to the caution. They outpaced the entire field as they fought for the lead.
In the closing laps the feature, Matrafailo worked the middle line while Quick tried several times to tuck underneath him. At the line the two drivers were separated by three-one thousandths of a second with Matrafailo holding on for the win.
With Matrafailo and Quick dominating the event, third place went to rookie driver John Cunningham, of Pompey, N.Y., as he earned his best finish of the season.
Tyler Rice, of Mohawk, N.Y., crossed the line fourth just in front of Caroga Lake, N.Y., driver, Chad King.
