Tanner Dominates in CRSA Event at OCFS

MIDDLETOWN, NY – Matt Tanner, of East Berlin, N.Y., started on the pole and led the entire 20-lap A-Main event to capture his second Capital Region Sprint Agency feature event win of the season Saturday night at the Orange County Fair Speedway.

It was Tanner’s third and his first since the month of June at the Accord Speedway. It also helped him take the point lead from Jeff VanSteenburg and put him near the top of the D&D Auto Supply Southern NY Tour Championship points.

Tanner and Pete Sindt brought the 26 car field to the drop of the green. Tanner got the jump but it was negated very quickly when the caution was displayed immediately.

Jeff VanSteenburg, Brian Davis, Brett Jaycox and Josh Pienigzek got together in turn three ending the night for all of them except for Pienigzek.

On the ensuing restart, Tanner bolted to the lead again while John Matraifailo got by Sindt for the runner-up position.

The red flag was displayed on lap six when Bruce Evans had a part failure on his car and slammed hard into the outside wall in turn three. His car rolled several times before coming to stop. He was not injured in the incident.

Tanner’s pace picked up after the red flag but Matrafailo was able to stay with him as they bolted away from the field.

Those two battled over the remaining laps of the event. Tanner proved to be too much for Matrafailo allowing him to pick up the victory by just less than a second.

Matrafailo, of Milford, Pa., settled for second while Sindt held on to finish in third after starting on the front row.

Chad King, of Caroga Lake, N.Y., finished in fourth with Craig Rochelle, of Hackettstown, N.J., completed the top five.
