First CRSA Win to King at Devil’s Bowl

WEST HAVEN, V.T. – Chad King has been close many times to earning his first career Capital Region Sprint Agency win. On Sunday night, King got the monkey of his back as he took his first career win at the Devil’s Bowl Speedway.

King, of Caroga Lake, N.Y., got a few breaks early and then a lightening quick race car helped propel him to that first career series feature win.

John Cunningham and John Matrafailo led the starting field the start of the 20-lap affair and it was Matrafailo gaining the edge at the start.

Matrafailo was the running away from the field when disaster struck him on lap seven. Matrafailo attempted to work a different line and it caused him to spin in turn two.

The second place car of Cunningham slowed with mechanical problems on the very same lap.

With troubles stopping the top two, King was handed the top position with Warren Alexson and Chuck Alessi knocking on the door.

King brought the field to the green but the caution was displayed one lap later when Jim McCaffrey lost a steering line on his No. 7.

King had to survive another restart with Alexson sitting in second looking for an opportunity to get by.

The two continued to set the pace with King holding off the challenges of Alexson.

Lap 10 saw the field slowed again by caution when Dylan Swiernik and current point leader Jeremy Quick got together. Quick was able to continue but Swiernik’s night was ended.

On the restart, King held the top spot while Alexson slowed with mechanical problems in his No. 3a.

The final caution of the feature was displayed on lap 12 when several cars came together in turn four. Mike Bosco, Josh Flach, Matrafailo were all involved. Flach tumble over lightly on his side. All drivers were uninjured.

The race went green the rest of the way with King taking home the win.

The 2007 series champion, Chuck Alessi, crossed the line second. Jeff VanSteenburg, of West Shokan, N.Y., had a good finish after some tough luck as of late as he finished in third.

Dan Hennessy, of Washingtonville, N.Y., came to the checkered in fourth while Josh Pieniazek was able to complete the top five in a second Alexson mount.
