John Virgilio Crowned CRSA Points Leader and Rookie of the Year at CRSA Banquet this Weekend – 11/12/11 |

The CRSA 2011 season officially came to a close this weekend, as they hosted their 2011 awards banquet at the Holiday Inn in Oneonta, NY. It was an exciting close to the season, with just over 100 family and team members, owners, drivers, officials, fans and even local race track owners who participated in recognizing the top drivers of the year. CRSA handed out over $7,500 in cash prizes and awards, breaking yet another record of many in CRSA history this year.
Mike VanDusen kicked off the awards ceremony by recognizing CRSA sponsors for the season; Lias Tires/American Racer, Vertex Magsarus, M&W Aluminum Products, UltraShield Race Products, Kreitz Oval Track Products, Algonkin Motel, Ultimate Wings, Whitebread Racing, D&D Auto Supply, Kelly Racing Fuels, and Triple X Race Components,… After reminiscing a bit over some the season highlights, Mike turned the ceremony over to a long time race colleague, Leon Andrus, Gator Racing News columnist and announcer at I88 Speedway and 5-Mile Point Speedway, to announce the awards.
Drivers came up to receive their awards in the following order:
CRSA First Time Feature Winners: John Virgilio, Art Kiser (Tommy Martocci, Cory Sparks, Craig Rochelle, Danny Varin, Jeff Taylor – not present)
Perfect Attendance Awards were given to the 5 drivers who made 21 out of 21 shows: John Virgilio, Jamie Christian, Chad King, Brett Jaycox, John Cunningham.
Most Improved Driver Award went to a 2011 CRSA Rookie: Brittany Tresch
Newcomer Award: Tommy Martocci (not present)
Vertex MAGSARUS Hard Charger Award: John Cunningham
M&W Aluminum Products Pit Crew Award: Pit Crew of Jamie Christian
PennCan Speedway American Racer Award : 1st Place-Jamie Christian, 2nd Place – John Virgilio, 3rd Place – Chad King
I88 Speedway Algonkin Challenge Award, Presented by Jamie and Denise Page: 1st Place – Josh Pieneazik, 2nd Place – John Virgilio, 3rd Place Jamie Christian
First Annual CRSA Party /Hospitality Points Award: #38DD of Johnny and Karen Matrafailo
Kelly Fuels “Heartbreak” Award: Chad King and Brett Jaycox
Lias Tire American Racer “All 4” Bonus Award: John Cunningham
CRSA Point Fund Awards to Drivers in Attendance finishing outside of the top 10: JR Hurlburt, Johnny Matrafailo, Curtis June, Rookie Matt Priscott, Luke Munroe, Mark Zemcik, Billy Vaninwegen
Rookie of the Year: John Virgilio
Top 10 in Points: 1st John Virgilio, 2nd Jamie Christian, 3rd Chad King, 4th Brett Jaycox, 5th John Cunninhgham, 6th Josh Pieniazek, 7th Art Kiser, 8th Warren Alexson, 9th Billy Jaycox, 10th Brittany Tresch.
Mike Vandusen then presented the 2nd annual, 2011 CRSA Fellowship Award, to Warren Alexson for his long time commitment and dedication to CRSA. Closing the ceremony, thank you gifts were presented to the CRSA Officials for their hard work over the 2011 season; Kenny Marshall, Steve Boggs, Chuck Stith, Jimmy Ray, Ed Costello, Stephanie Ray, Darlene Crandall, and wife Deb VanDusen.
CRSA would like to thank all of the Race Tracks, Tour and Nightly Sponsors, our Webmaster - Mike Mallett, and all those who helped in many ways to make this a successful 2011 season. Also, a special thanks to the Holiday Inn staff and our DJ of the night, Rick Cornish!
